The commissioned artists with Cllrs Chris Robbins and Ahsan Khan
The London Borough of Waltham Forest has commissioned an ambitious and inspiring project for 2012 called ‘Artists Taking Part.’ It will make a major contribution to the Borough’s Olympic and cultural celebrations and involves a host of locally based, world-class artists including dancers, writers, poets, film-makers, visual artists and musicians.
My commission is to document the events, festivals and celebrations which range from the Torch Relay to the Asian Mela, from the spectacle of ‘Godiva Awakes’ to the grass roots participatory arts programmes.
I will also be documenting the ‘behind-the-scenes’ activities by school & community groups preparing art work for the street festivals and (hopefully…) Olympic athletes training and preparing to compete!
Accompanying me on the shoots are a team of volunteers from across the community who attended three workshops about digital photography. The volunteers will be encouraged to create images from their perspective using professional standard digital cameras. At the end of the project, highlights from their work will be included in an exhibition.
